New services for rural residents. CCVN is now the largest Fiber Optic Network in Western NC. We offer cable services in many areas that do not support newly added fiber optic services. We currently service many residents in Yancey, Mitchell, & Madison Counties.

Happy Fall!!

With  fall officially here comes cooler weather, changing leaves, more traffic, and continued road construction.  With that in mind we hope everyone will be careful out there and try to have a little patience on the road as traveling gets worse.

Also keep in mind that as the road construction goes on that means we may have to re-route and run new lines to accommodate the new road.  We may have to have some areas off and on for a while as this is happening.  We will try our best to have outages back on as quick as possible and will work to keep planned outages to a minimum.  We will try to keep you updated on any planned outages we may have as we go.

Voice quality issues

Please be aware that our provider’s teams are currently investigating packet loss on the voice network which could be result in voice quality issues.

Their teams are continuing to escalate with Level3 (yesterday’s issues was Level3 had a fiber cut).  All parties may not be experiencing issues due to routing changes that they are making to accommodate this packet loss.   We will continue to provide updates as updates are provided from our provider.

Fiber Line Cut

A fiber line has been cut on the east side of Burnsville causing an outage of cable, phone, and internet services to the Micaville, Newdale, South Toe and Busick Areas.  Crews are working on splicing the fibers back and service will be restored as quickly as possible.

CCVN Fiber Maintenance

Please see below for planned fiber maintenance schedule. This is due to the new road going from Micaville to Spruce Pine. This maintenance will take care of the fiber from Micaville through Crabtree so the road can continue working through the area.

Maintenance Location: 4 locations between Micaville and Crabtree on 19E
Description of Maintenance: Fiber Maintenance transferring to new fiber due to road construction
Impact: 6 hours downtime expected but reserving the nine hour window
Locations Impacted: All areas on 19E east of Micaville, all old cable areas from town of Bakersville south to McDowell county line, all areas on 80N, Little Switzerland, 7 Mile, 80S from Micaville to Locust Creek Rd.

Multi-room DVR service now available to Fiber customers

Multi-room DVR services are now available to Fiber Optic customers for an additional fee*.  What you would need is the monthly service, one DVR box and an HD box.  Multi-room DVR will support 1 DVR and up to 3 HD boxes.  Multi-room DVR service works using the MoCA technology.

What is MoCA?

MoCA (“Multimedia over Coax”, pronounced Mocha) delivers the same high-speed network connection as an Ethernet cable through your existing coaxial cable (the wire used to receive cable TV) to any room in your home.When setting up a MoCA adapter in your home, you can connect MoCa enabled devices (Arris DVR, Cable Modems**, and more), and receive cable TV while connecting to the home network through your existing coax cable, making it a more secure connection without additional wiring.Note: If a TV signal can be received from any given outlet, it can support MoCA.

You can record anything on the DVR and watch the recording from any HD box on the Multi-room DVR network.  You can schedule a later recording from the guide at an HD box but you cannot record, pause, or rewind live TV from the HD box. You can fully control the recorded program from the HD box once it is recorded on the DVR.

Notice to our cable subscribers

Due to the ever increasing cost of station program fees, plus the fact we carry two other CBS network stations. After midnight 12/31/14 we will no longer be carrying WBT-TV on our channel # 3. We plan to begin carrying WLNN MTN18 from Boone as soon as some technical problems are cleared up. This is an independent station and carries some of the school ball games from YANCEY and MITCHELL counties.

Due to the same cost problems and the fact that we carry another NBC channel, We will no longer be carrying WCYB after midnight on 12/31/14. We are replacing WCYB with PBS-EX, The Explorer Channel

We know that no one likes changes and we apologize, however this action is being taken in order to hold down the cost of service to our subscribers.

Viacom/MTV Network Channels May Go Dark.

We are currently in talks with Viacom, the owner of cable networks such as Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, VH1, TV Land, BET and many others. Viacom has demanded a rate increase that’s 40 times the rate of inflation*. That’s like pulling up to the gas pump and finding out that gas has gone from $3.50 a gallon to $6.00—overnight! And Viacom may demand we drop their networks if we don’t agree to their proposal.
